Mbemba flew to Tyneside on Thursday to undergo his medical, which he passed, before putting pen to paper on his reported five-year contract, which is yet to be ratified.

Newcastle United are closing in on a deal for Anderlecht’s Chancel Mbemba.

Confident their financial offer, which is understood to involve a basic wage of around £33,000-a-week with further incentives based on results, would not be matched, Newcastle officials opted to sit tight.

“The documentation in relation to the club’s application for a Governing Body Endorsement [GBE], required in order for Mbemba to obtain a visa, was submitted to the FA on Wednesday morning [22nd July]”.

However, the club will have wait until at least Thursday for the FA to confirm whether Mbemba, a Democratic Republic of Congo worldwide, will be granted a visa.

The 20-year-old Mitrovic fired off 23 goals in the Belgian Pro League last term, and that performance has also caught the attention of Newcastle, Swansea, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

The deal for DR Congo global Mbemba is likely to be finalised in the next 48 hours.

Newcastle have already signed one player from Anderlecht this summer in Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic. The FA advised the club they were not able to convene a panel any sooner.

Premier League rivals Aston Villa and Stoke City are believed to be interested in the Uruguayan, who netted 15 times for Les Girondins in Ligue 1 last season.
