The state government announced that it will come up with a new independent law state legislative winter session (December) to seize the property of corrupt officials. The discussion arose as members of the Legislative Council expressed concerns over the large-scale corruption among the government officials. The CM was responding to NCP MLC Prakash Binsale, who had questioned the government on the action it had taken on properties of government officials who have been accused of corruption in last few months.

Reports added that Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria also met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to assess law and order situation.
“In the present system, we have seen many officials disposing their properties, when cases are going on against them”.
Fadnavis said the government took utmost care to ensure there was no tension in the state, especially Mumbai, the hometown of Memons following the execution.
An open inquiry on officials and government employees will be conducted by ACB. Once it is established that an official has amassed assets disproportionate to his income, a case is registered.
“In absence of any specific directives not to go ahead with the execution, if Yakub is not hanged tomorrow, the state government will be in trouble for not implementing the death warrant”, he said. In at least 250 such cases involving government officials, permission for recovery of assets to compensate for loss to the public exchequer is pending. The ACB arrested 820 accused in connection with these cases.

Provisions have been made by ACB for people to register complaints against corrupt officials on its website, its Facebook page as well as through a mobile application, and launched a toll-free telephone number (1064) in this regard.
