The SLP would be filed in due course, Vagyani said during the hearing of a public interest litigation filed by senior journalist Nikhil Wagle seeking compensation from Khan for victims of the 2002 hit-and-run mishap.

The actor has deposited a compensation for the families of the victims as directed by court, but Wagle’s petition is being heard as the court expanded its scope to include enhancement of punishment in accident cases.

On May 6, 2015, the Mumbai sessions court convicted the Bollywood star for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment of 5 years and a fine of Rs 25,000. Firstly, they wanted to know if there were specific guidelines followed by the investigating agencies while collecting blood samples and other evidence from crime scene.

However, there are no rules that provide for a time frame within which the blood samples are to be tested. The matter has been posted for hearing in January.

Ms. Gadkar has been out in bail and following a Sessions Court order passed on December 18, the police returned her license.
