Tampa Bay Rays’ Erasmo Ramirez fields a come-backer to the mound hit by Baltimore Orioles’ Matt Wieters during the fourth inning of a baseball game Saturday, September 19, 2015, in St. Petersburg, Fla. Well, at some point he did – he’s Zacrey Law and he plays for the Princeton Rays, Tampa Bay’s Advanced Rookie-level team.

“Would like to take advantage of six runs, ” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said.

Before the game, Cash said the biggest thing for the team was to remain patient with Moore and allow him to get the innings he needs during his final starts of the season.

After Shaffer’s double, the Taiwanese lefty cruised through five innings, permitting only an infield single and a hit batsman. Tim Beckham burned him for a two-run homer in the second inning, but the fifth is where the wheels truly fell off. In that frame, the Rays scored six runs, including three on a bases-clearing double by Grady Sizemore.

“I figured if he’s going with Longoria hitting, he’ll probably take a shot next time, so Darren gave a good pitch to throw on”, Wieters said.

During Friday night’s game against the Orioles, this Rays fan checked all three of those boxes.

“I was pretty amped up when I went out there and a combination of being excited and having that adrenaline going for not only a spot start but an opportunity to kind of build some momentum for the team led to what it led to”, Wilson said. He allowed a base runner in all but two of the seven innings he pitched, but made huge pitches to get out of jams when needed. Pearce, who is from nearby Lakeland Florida, has 10 homers in 37 games against the Rays.

J.J. Hardy put the Orioles up 3-0 in the second with his first homer since July 29 and eighth this year.

Baltimore, which started play 4 1-2 games behind Houston for the second AL wild card, lost for the third time in 10 games.

Ramirez (10-6) lasted seven innings, giving up two runs and nine hits while striking out four. He entered hitless in seven at-bats against Smyly. Pinch-hitters Gerardo Parra and Steve Clevenger singled with two outs, with Clevenger’s hit driving in Baltimore’s first run, and Manny Machado singled to cut the deficit to 3-2. RHP Miguel Gonzalez (right shoulder) is scheduled for a bullpen session Sunday.

Rays: Reliever Xavier Cedeno (left side) could return Saturday…. LHP Jake McGee (left knee) will have his second simulated game Sunday. Home plate umpire Dale Scott ruled that Longoria obstructed Wieters’ throw and was called out for interference; Mahtook was sent back to first.

The ball never came down – it hit the C-Ring catwalk and stayed above the playing field, the fifth time in Tropicana Field that’s happened.

That was it for Wilson (2-2), who gave up as many runs Friday as he did in his first six outings combined.
