Also on the main card, Anthony Pettis hopes to rejuvenate his career at featherweight following three straight lightweight division losses and squares off against Charles Oliveira, who has won five of his last six fights.

After going 25 minutes with then-champion Robbie Lawler in a “Fight of the Year” candidate in January, Condit thought about retirement.

Maia, ranked third in the division, believes that if he beats Condit, the No. 1 contender status will be given to either himself or Thompson.

So now that we know what’s on the line let’s look at this matchup.

But Demian Maia is no ordinary fighter. Tyron was definitely preaching the other way around when he didn’t get his shot, now that he’s got the title for him to do that to me is kind of hypocritical. “It’s one of my favorite aspects of the sport”, he said. “But I have the skills to create opportunities to do what I want to do and finish the fight”.

Condit got the green light at Friday morning’s official weigh-in took place in Vancouver.

“I think it’s not just to get the fight to the ground but also work well on the ground because he defends well”, Maia said.

VanZant started the fight slow in the first round but ended the fight right as the second round began. He keeps going all the time.

When asked after the fight, Maia said he was willing to wait for Stephen Thompson to battle champion Tyron Woodley and take on the victor down the road.
