LEE, Maine (AP) – A former convict charged in a Maine spree of violence that left two dead will appear in court in the town where he was apprehended Friday.

Officers, detectives and evidence technicians will work through the weekend to piece the case together, Hashey said.
Authorities are trying to determine the motive of the ex-convict they say shot five people, two of them fatally, during a rampage across northern Maine. From there, police say Lord kidnapped Brittany Irish, who was with Lord at the time of his arrest and who police said was unharmed.
Maine District Court Judge Bernard O’Mara asked the defendant if he understood he faced two counts of murder and one of kidnapping.
Assistant Attorney General Leane Zainea said Lord would likely face further charges.
Lord has a criminal record that includes convictions for a sex crime, domestic assault, criminal threatening and assault.
“You hear about this stuff happening in New York, but not in Houlton”, she said.
State police also are investigating the death of his 6-month-old son, who was discovered unresponsive by his mother in Millinocket in May.
On Saturday, several police cars were still parked outside the gray home in Benedicta where police say Lord killed Hewitt and wounded Kim Irish.

“It’s mind-blowing. To see a SWAT team in Lee or Lincoln is ridiculous”, said Rick Jipson, a mechanic who lives nearby in the town of Lowell.
