Major fire at the Fireworks Factory shop in Southampton

Astonishing images have emerged of a Southampton fireworks factory engulfed in flames and exploding spectacularly as onlookers flee and firefighters look on helplessly.

Homes have been evacuated and a school closed after a huge fire broke out at a fireworks factory in Southampton this morning.

Firefighters were called after a fire broke out at Southern Fireworks Factory in Southampton, which created a spectacular, yet extremely unsafe display.

Local resident, Chris Nichols, posted on Vine: “Woken up by big bang”.

The road was closed and drivers were urged to avoid the Area.

Lenny posted: “Woke up to fireworks this morning and thinking who the hell sets them off at 6 in the morning”.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service group commander Howard Watts said: “It was a challenging scene when we arrived – with all the explosions we couldn’t get too close to the fire”, according to the BBC.

No-one was injured, they said.

“Fireworks were shooting out in all directions into the air. We hope that everyone in the community is safe and well”.
