The FAA has not said how many flights have been impacted by the issue.

A majority of travelers were booked on new flights Sunday out of Norfolk or other nearby airports.

Flight delays were still plaguing much of the northeastern U.S. on Saturday, but interruptions were minimal in Atlanta, home to one of the world’s busiest airports – the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta worldwide Airport. According to the flight-tracking website flightaware.com, 26% of scheduled departures from Reagan had been canceled.

Airports in the Washington and New York City areas were hit hard.

An Atlanta flight was cancelled this afternoon. “There’s reason to even try”, said Anthony Bourassa, a Dudley, Mass resident planning a trip from Bradley to Pensacola, Florida.

His flight was delayed two hours after all the passengers boarded. “I was ready to go home”.

“That moment when you start planning your lunch and dinner at the airport”, she said.

Technical issues at a Federal Aviation Administration center in Washington, D.C. are causing delays of flights at Manchester Boston Regional Airport.

A spokesman at Baltimore-Washington global Thurgood Marshall Airport said takeoffs and landings at airports in the region are “extremely limited”. Passengers at Southwest concourses of BWI stood in long lines as they tried to adjust their flight plans.
