The smashed phone was well-recieved by baseball fans on social media, and Ortiz can add it to the list of unusual gifts he’s received throughout the year. The loss coupled with the Detroit Tigers’ doubleheader sweep Thursday dropped the Orioles a half-game out of the second wild card.

Just before his last regular-season appearance in Baltimore, the Orioles presented “Big Papi” with an official, reconditioned dugout telephone.

In a ceremony, Ortiz was given the phone he destroyed inside the visitor’s dugout during a tirade on July 27, 2013.

Baltimore trailed 3-0 before Trey Mancini, starting his second major league game, hit a tying three-run homer in the third inning.

All smiles: Baltimore’s Adam Jones hands the gift over to David Ortiz. His 30 home runs at Camden Yards are second among visiting players. Mookie Betts singled up the middle on a two-strike changeup. Jones kiddingly gestured to the slugger that he’d forgotten his gift.

Blake Snell gave up five hits and three walks in five solid innings and Corey Dickerson homered at Tropicana Field to prevent a three-game sweep and dent the Yankees’ post-season hopes.

Upton’s seventh inning homer came off Twins reliever Alex Wimmers and broke a 1-1 tie.

Making his third start since returning from a shoulder injury, Tillman allowed eight of the 13 batters he faced to reach base on four singles, three walks and a triple.

INDIANS 5, ROYALS 2 (at Cleveland) – Carlos Santana’s three-run homer pushed Cleveland past Kansas City and nearer to its first AL Central championship since 2007. Kimbrel had a nice 1-2-3 inning to get the save, the win and the sweep.

Jason Kipnis homered for the Indians, who can wrap up a postseason berth this weekend against the Chicago White Sox.

Toronto (83-69) are 1-1/2 games in front of Detroit.

His 109 RBI’s are a career-high.

The Houston Astros fell one and a half games behind the Tigers in the AL wild-card hunt after a 2-0 defeat to the Los Angeles Angels, Albert Pujols crushing a two-run homer in the first inning.

The Atlanta Braves stretched their winning run with a 6-3 victory over the Miami Marlins and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1.

But after suffering a series sweep in which they scored just eight runs over the four-game span, the Orioles are suddenly much closer to missing the playoffs than playing in them.
