Major League Baseball Notes: Dustin Pedroia to 15-day DL
Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia returned to the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a strained right hamstring after the same injury caused him to miss 16 games before the All-Star break.

Knuckleballer Steven Wright was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to take Pedroia’s spot on the roster.
Holt left Sunday’s game against the Detroit Tigers after injuring the knee, and appears primed to return to the lineup tomorrow.
On the season, the 31-year-old Pedroia is hitting.
According to ESPN, Pedroia was given clearance to return in time for their last series before the All-Star break after originally sustaining the injury last month against the Baltimore Orioles.
The 10-year veteran did not play in Friday’s game before the hamstring was diagnosed.
Pedroia played the first six games of Boston’s recent seven-game road trip, going 1-for-22.
“He’s improved today, ” manager John Farrell said of Holt, “yet at the recommendation of the medical staff, another day was needed”.
Brock Holt is making his third straight start at second base Saturday. “Pedey was part of the process along the way, but more than anything, it was determined he wasn’t going to risk further injury, not that the injury has intensified, it’s still persisting”.
As with the Red Sox, there’s always next year.
Weeks, who took over at second Sunday, was back at the position again Monday with Holt on the mend. “I mean, can’t put dates on anything because if you do that, then you get in a situation like we’re in now”.
“In an emergency we could probably use him”, Farrell said, “but perfer to give him a day of rest if we could”.

The Red Sox contend that Pedroia’s re-aggravation did not come from one specific play, but from the wear and tear of playing every day.
