Major League notebook: Cespedes on DL, criticized for golf
Cespedes injured the quadriceps on July 8, and he has been in and out of the lineup for the past month. Asked about that image before Thursday nights Subway Series game at Yankee Stadium, Collins raised his voice.

Hours after he teed off on reporters wanting to know if Yoenis Cespedes’ trips to the golf course resulted in an injury, New York Mets manager Terry Collins watched his newest bat drive a ball almost 400 feet. I dont care about perception. “I deal with reality”.
With Brandon Nimmo promoted to replace Cespedes, the Mets now have five lefty-hitting outfielders, which Alderson acknowledged is not ideal.
“The golf is bad optics”, Alderson said Thursday.
On Thursday, Alderson added that he has come to a “mutual agreement” with Cespedes’ representatives that the outfielder will refrain from golfing, at least for the time period when it could be viewed negatively by the public.
“I don’t think he wants me to just put him in there to get this thing done and sacrifice the team when you’ve got somebody else that’s going good”, manager Don Mattingly said. The Mets just didn’t have enough offense last season to get it done, but now with Bruce and Cespedes the Mets are going to be a scary team to play. Manager Terry Collins said he had never overseen a team hit so hard by injuries.
Actually, Alderson might be the one dealing with reality here. “Hopefully at the end of two weeks he’ll be back and hopefully 100 percent or close to it, and we’ll go from there”. A-Rod is in a 2-for-28 rut, is hitting.204 and has started once since July 22.
New York Mets’ Yoenis Cespedes looks at his bat during his ninth-inning at-bat, in which he struck out, in the Mets’ 9-5 loss to the New York Yankees in a baseball game Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, in New York.
Yankees: RHP Michael Pineda (5-10, 5.13) starts at home, pitching vs. the Indians for the first time in his career.
Rodriguez is 23 for 56 (.411) with eight home runs and 20 RBIs lifetime against Colon – the most homers the right-hander has allowed to any hitter.
“Those numbers are from a long time ago”, Joe Girardi said.
Cespedes, who hadn’t started the last two games due to the quad injury, served as the DH on Wednesday night and was expected to DH the next four games.
RAYS: Tampa Bay claimed catcher Bobby Wilson off waivers from Texas and optioned catcher Curt Casali to Triple-A Durham. A day earlier, Sanchez had his first big league hit.

An MRI revealed Cespedes, who was traded by the Tigers to the Mets last season in the deal that netted Michael Fulmer, did no further damage by playing through the injury.
