Major Shell, BG shareholder expresses support for $53 bln merger

The takeover deal, which offered a 50 percent premium to BG’s April 7 share price and was worth $70 billion then, includes a cash payment, which Shell plans to cover by increasing its debt.

The companies said in a regulatory statement that Reading, England-based BG is today seeking the approval of the High Court to publish shareholders documents on Tuesday.

Court approval is expected on Tuesday, the companies said, followed by the publication of BG’s scheme document and the Shell shareholder prospectus.

Following shareholder approval, the delisting of an acquired company’s shares typically takes about 10 working days. That figure combines the projected spending of Shell and BG Group, the British gas producer it expects to purchase next year.
