Major Tim Peake ready for London Marathon aboard space station
The British astronaut, now orbiting Earth aboard the International Space Station [ISS], will also be battling boredom, loneliness, and possibly even hunger as he trudges through 26.2 miles strapped to a futuristic treadmill.

Major Tim Peake embarks on his first spacewalk.
An “eclectic” playlist of songs will keep him motivated and a video call to home will be motivation for the astronaut to finish the race.
“I’d like to wish everyone taking part the best of luck with their investigations and I look forward to seeing some of the results”.
If you know someone who is running the marathon, you can actually watch their progress on your phone in real time, using a tracking app. If you have an iPhone, you can download the official app from London Marathon, which is free.
For Android users, and anyone else without an iPhone, you can still track your friend on the web by entering their surname and running number, to see where they are.
“I don’t think I’ll be setting any personal bests”, he admits. “I’ve been four months up here and I’ve got my other crew mates who will be popping into Node 3 where I’m running the race. It tends to float around your stomach”.
“I’m quite glad that this is happening later on in the mission so I’ve had plenty of time to get used to the T2 treadmill”.
They’re raising money for a charity, The Prince’s Trust, which supports disadvantaged youth in England.
“And I do think that we recover faster up here from any kinds of aches or strains”.
“Tim is an ambassador of the Prince’s Trust and is very proud to be, so it’s a huge honour that we can support his ambassadorship by raising funds for him”, Libby explained.
Williams’ space record clocks in at 4 hours 23 minutes 10 seconds, which Peake stands a strong chance of beating.
“Cleaning in space is just a little bit like camping”, Peake added.
If they opted for a modest force – just enough to keep him from floating off the treadmill – he could likely run the marathon in near world-record time, but Peake is determined that his effort should be just as challenging as running the race on Earth.

The children planted 200 seeds, 100 of which were flown to the International Space Station (ISS) last September and the other 100 that stayed on earth.
