Malaysia in awe of ‘Roberto Carlos’ style wonder goal

A miracle goal by Penang football player Mohd Faiz Subri during the Super League clash between Penang and Pahang last night has taken the Internet by storm.

“World Class free kick dari (from) Faiz Subri”.

His free kick from around 35 yards out bent one way, then the other as it flew into the top corner of the goal.

“What a goal by Faiz Subri for Penang!… like Roberto Carlos”.

“This is no fluke goal”. Full credit must go to Subri for daring to score such a goal and having the technique to pull it off.

Subri was trending on Twitter after his crazily arcing effort in a 4-1 win over Pahang, that seemed to be heading for the goalie’s right-hand corner before changing direction and nestling in the goal’s opposite side.

His free-kick was reminiscent of that scored by Brazilian Roberto Carlos in 1998 against France.

Some have said that the goal is already a potential victor of the Fifa Puskas Award 2016, given to the best goal scored during the year.

“This is the first time a Malaysian footballer has received global fame for the right reasons”, said Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng during a ceremony at his office in Komtar.

Also present were Football Association of Penang (FAP) president Datuk Seri Nazir Ariff Mushir Ariff and Penang head coach Jackson F Tiago. “I will be calling Faiz to join the national team for training to play in the World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia on March 24”, he said.
