Police Anti-terrorist operatives have captured nine suspected Islamic State (IS) militants, two of whom are wanted for aiding and abetting in the grenade attack on the Movida Pub and Lounge on June 28 this year.

“We also seized an M67 grenade, which they planned to use in the attack”, he said.

Khalid said the two bar attack suspects had conspired with two others who had already been charged in court in connection with the attack in Petaling Jaya on June 28.

Late last month, a 21-year-old factory worker and a jobless man, 24, pleaded guilty to throwing a hand grenade into Movida in what police had described as the first successful strike by ISIS in Malaysia.

He said they were nabbed in a hilly area in Kuala Krai, Kelantan on Tuesday.

Police had also tracked down a suspected ISIL member, whose cell had received orders from Wanndy, and had threatened attacks on the police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur and on government buildings in the country’s administrative capital of Putrajaya, Khalid said.

Police suspected the three foreigners arrested in Kuala Lumpur on August 2 of making Malaysia a transit point to get false travel documents and of planning to launch an attack on a country in the Middle East.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said in a press release on Saturday that three of the suspects arrested – aged between 17 and 56 – were foreigners.

According to him, the teen who was detained in Sabah had planned to carry out a lone wolf attack to slaughter non Muslims in Sandakan.

Two weeks ago, Malaysian authorities had cancelled the passports of 68 of its citizens who were suspected of having gone to Syria and Iraq to support ISIL.
