David Ferrer defeated Feliciano Lopez 7-5, 7-5 on Sunday in the final of the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur, winning his fourth title of the season and 25th of his career.
“It is tough to return after a long break, but I managed to overcome the jet lag and put on a good show today”, said the 34-year-old Lopez, ranked 17 in the world. “Knowing that I could beat Karlovic, gives me added confidence”, said Kyrgios.
Grigor Dimitrov was due to take on Benjamin Becker and top seed David Ferrer face Mikhail Kukushkin in the other quarter-finals overnight.
“Radek did well but I managed a good second game to win”.
“It feels really good to be in the semifinal”.
Spain’s Feliciano Lopez did well to recover from going down a set to clinch a 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-2 win over Canada’s Vasek Pospisil. “Even though I lost the first set, I was getting better and better as the match went on”.
“I think I played better compared to yesterday”.
“Semifinal with Kyrgios, it will be tough… he’s an aggressive player, I have to watch out for his forehand”. Tomorrow will be another day…and I’m gonna think about tomorrow’s match. This year, I will try harder for the final…it is not easy to play.
