Malaysian Police to Grill Mahathir Over Rally Comments
Malaysian police have asked former prime minister Mahathir Mohamed to give a statement on allegations he made at a recent anti-government protest.

Mahathir made the comments, demanding the removal of Najib, at a demonstration attended by tens of thousands of people in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
Dr Mahathir has been vocal in his criticism of Najib and has even asked him to step down over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue.
“We want to know further and where he had obtained the information…”
Inspector-general of police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was quoted across Malaysian media as saying that authorities would record a statement by the influential leader, who ruled Malaysia for 22 years, after he made accusations at the protests that members of parliament had taken bribes.
He has been fighting for political survival after leaked documents in July showed he received the money from entities linked to indebted state fund 1MDB.
Malaysians must have the courage to go beyond their comfort zone and pursue entrepreneurship as a means to generate income instead of merely depending on their monthly salaries, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
Ugaz also criticized disruptions to the investigations and the suspension of two Malaysian newspapers over reporting on the financial scandal.
The Bersih 4 rally, organised by electoral reform group Bersih 2.0, demanded Najib’s resignation, the right to dissent, the strengthening of parliamentary democracy and other institutional reforms.
“The government has to move quickly to rebuild confidence and credibility, within Malaysia and the world at large”, it said.
Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak took a swipe at his fiercest critic, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, saying he had never imagined that the former prime minister could be so critical of his administration.
A lawyer representing Bersih, Ramkarpal Singh, said police were investigating the organisers over various assembly violations.
