Charles will be featured alongside Katy Perry in TV, print, and digital campaigns to promote the brand’s products. “Today I’m living out one of my biggest dreams and I’m now on set of my first ever TV commercial with CoverGirl“, he said with a huge smile.
The 17-year-old aspiring makeup artist from NY started his Instagram a year ago in the hopes of inspiring the world with beautifully transformative and dynamic makeup looks that show the many facets of his personality. Charles is also pretty Instagram-famous, with 440,000 followers obtained in the past year alone.
“It’s such a huge honor to be working with one of the most iconic beauty brands in history, alongside huge icons, such as Katy Perry”.
The high school senior took to Instagram in 2015 to showcase his remarkable makeup skills and quickly racked up a following that now counts more than 500,000.
You might recognize makeup artist and YouTuber James Charles’s face from his ***flawless senior pictures.
If you’ve ever seen an episode of America’s Next Top Model, you’ll know that landing the coveted position of CoverGirl spokesmodel is a really, really big deal.
Over on CoverGirl’s Instagram page, the company posted a video of Charles introducing himself.
“I want to keep doing looks and tutorials, and I’d love to eventually start my own makeup line”, Charles said.
CoverGirl’s newest representative is, interestingly, a boy.
While this is a bold move for CoverGirl, it’s not the first time that the company has attempted to shed its classic image.

While some of the men in the community identify as transgender, Charles explained in an interview with Marie Claire that for some of them makeup is just another form of creative expression. The social media sensation revealed that he had brought his own ring light at the portrait session. I was staring at him with my jaw dropped, wondering how he got his eye makeup so ideal and why my cheekbones have never looked that contoured/amazing in my life?! I was like, “yeah girl, but if you look terrible, I’m not taking credit”.
