Malia Obama to take gap year before Harvard

Yesterday evening, President Barack Obama hosted his last White House Correspondents’ dinner, an annual even where Administration officials meet with the Washington press corp and an impressive number of celebrities.

Attending the black-tie event for the last time as USA president on Saturday, Barack Obama won a standing ovation for his pun-filled speech, after poking fun at reporters and presidential candidates, as well as himself.

Watch his entire speech below.

“Here we are, my eighth and final address at this unique event and I am excited. Earn me some serious Tubmans”.

And this: “Hillary Clinton was flustered when a Black Lives Matters, protester challenged her. Man, whoa, I haven’t seen a white lady being that upset about being blindsided by a black person since Kelly Ripa”, Wilmore joked. It was also a nod to Harriet Tubman, the American abolitionist whose image will be printed on US$20 bills.

But Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders was present. You all look great. “Or to put it in terms you’ll understand, 37,000 donations of $27 each”.

A tongue-in-cheek video tribute to Mr Obama’s seven-plus years in office was played before his speech containing highlights of verbal gaffes including his reference to “57 states” and misspelling of “rspect”.

She’ll begin there in the fall of 2017, after taking a gap year, the White House announced Sunday.

“It’s an honor to be here at my last – and perhaps the last – White House Correspondents’ Dinner”. His sons Eric and Donald Jr, however, were among the guests.

“I am a little hurt that he’s not here tonight”, Obama said referring to Trump.

“Many of us are against using the N-word period”, Sharpton, the president of the National Action Network and an MSNBC host, told the Los Angeles Times.

The president even targeted Donald Trump, from why he wasn’t at the Correspondents Dinner, to cracking a joke about his lack of experience on foreign policy. What could he possibly be doing and saying? “Tweeting out insults to Angela Merkel?”. And this is going to take some getting used to.

The president took special aim at Republican frontrunner Trump throughout his speech, even though Trump didn’t attend the dinner.
