Malik nabs India’s first Rio medal
Both Sakshi and Sindhu are young and have many more Olympic Games ahead of them, we can look forward to even greater performances from them.

In the first round, Tynybekova implemented a leg-hold grabbed Sakshi’s leg and quickly earned two points before adding one more for the Indian’s passivity.
He said he told her during the break that she should “untwine her fingers from the opponent and go for her legs”.
Earlier, Sakshi had crashed out of contention for the gold medal after a one-sided 2-9 loss to Valeria in the quarter-finals.
Sindhu has now become the second Indian player in badminton to win an Olympic medal after Saina Nehwal, who had clinched bronze in London four years ago. And the victor of that bout (Mongolian girl) then took on Sakshi in repechage round 2.
But that’s not where the list of wins comes to an end. She was down 0-4 against Sweden’s Malin Johanna Mattsson, but won 5-4 in the qualification round. It’s a success of my 12 years of dedication.
The Railway Ministry, the employers of Sakshi, will give Rs 60 lakh to her.
By winning a bronze medal in wrestling, 23-year-old Sakshi Malik helped India avoid a potentially embarrassing Olympic blackout.
Mr Sisodia’s announcement came while he visited the parents of the wrestler in Haryana’s Rohtak.
Malik’s come-from-behind win in a playoff bout against a wrestler from Kyrgyzstan pulled India into a tie at the bottom of the medals table with countries such as the Dominican Republic, Estonia and Moldova.
In Sakshi’s school, no girl is hesitant to train with boys and vice-versa; the result is right in front of you.
“Neha Dhupia: “#SakshiMalik I salute the woman, the athlete n the Indian in u.What a fantastic win n what a glorious moment.Congratulations #Olympics #Ind”. In last round, I had to give my maximum, I had the self belief. However, she had to wait about an hour for the MRI, since the machines were busy with other athletes.
Sakshi, who qualfied through second Olympic Games World Qualifying Tournament in Istanbul, battled social biases and sexism to learn wrestling.
By now it is well-documented as to how Dipa chose to try her luck in a sport that not many in the country considered worth pursuing, perhaps until now.
“I am extremely happy and excited about Sindhu’s match today”.
Malik has come a long way from watching her grandfather wrestle in sand pits, the family tradition that originally inspired her interest in the male-dominated sport. To all fathers who feel that their daughters should not enter sports, Sakshi should be an example. Dipa Karmakar, the first ever female gymnast representing the country in the Olympics, has also narrowly missed a medal, by securing the fourth place. She had displayed her skills at Produnava, considered to be a tricky and hard maneouver of gymnastics, and had qualified for the finals.
She had lost her quarterfinal bout but got a fresh lease of life when her Russian conqueror reached the final, allowing the Indian to compete in the repechage round. She never regretted her decision till date.
She started to break through internationally after winning a silver medal at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, followed by a bronze at the Incheon Asian Games the same year. “I am thankful to the entire nation for staying behind our athletes and supporting them”, he said. Thank u SAKSHI MALIK so so proud of u.
“Her determination paid off”.

“If he wants to be there, he will be our guest, but we haven’t got in touch with him or he hasn’t got in touch with us since the Opening but obviously if we get a chance to have him it will be our pleasure”, Andara said.
