Mallya didn’t flee from India, has faith in judiciary

The self-styled “King of Good Times ” , who built his business around Kingfisher beer and co-owns a Formula 1 racing team, explained to his five million Twitter followers that he travels to and from India frequently, saying he was the target of “a raging fire” media witch hunt”.

The businessman did not mention his location in his tweets, but said that as a member of parliament he would fully comply with the law.

Vijay Mallya is a household name in India, having inherited a large chunk of United Spirits Ltd from his father, which he went on to sell to Diageo in April 2014.

Mallya reportedly left the country 6 days before the apex court issued an order to seize his passport to prevent him leaving India till the recovery operations come to a conclusion. In a veiled threat to the media, he added: “Let media bosses not forget help, favours, accommodation that I have provided over several years which are documented”.

His downfall was triggered by the failure of Kingfisher Airlines, which he launched in 2005.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the CBI admitted of an “inadvertent error” , in how its first Lookout Circular against Mallya, issued on October 16 previous year, that had asked immigration authorities to detain Mallya and report the same to the CBI was different from its second circular, which was issued on November 24, asking immigration authorities to merely inform the agency about Mallya’s arrival.
