Mamadou Sakho: Liverpool want to ship out defender

Sakho is understood to have a future at the club, but Klopp is actively looking to send him out on a temporary basis before Wednesday night’s transfer deadline.

Stoke’s attempts to sign Mamadou Sakho from Liverpool appear to have failed after the player turned down a move to the club.

Sakho is recovering from a hard few months in which he tested positive in a UEFA drugs testing before being subsequently cleared early in July.

Sakho is now nursing an Achilles injury but faces stiff competition for a starting spot when he returns after Jurgen Klopp strengthened the centre-back position at Anfield over the summer with the acquisitions of Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan from the Bundesliga.

The ban also led to him being omitted from Didier Deschamps’ France squad for this summer’s European Championships.

This lack of respect has led Klopp to question Sakho’s attitude and the Liverpool Echo claim the defender has now been told he’s not in the managers plans for the season with the likes of Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klaven all ahead of him in the pecking order.

It’s been a torrid four months for the 26-year-old, who was accused by UEFA of failing a drugs test and missed Euro 2016 before being subsequently cleared.

The France global has plummeted down the pecking order since being sent home from the Reds’ pre-season tour for three breaches of club discipline.

He may have to lower his sights over the next 24 hours and take Klopp’s advice if he’s serious about reparing the damage that’s been done to his Liverpool career.
