The massive drug haul case started from 500 gram of ephedrine from a Nigerian man and further investigation landed the cops to more accused and finally the cops raided a factory in Solapur, in Maharashtra where more than 20-tonnes of ephedrine was seized which was illegally seized there.
Vicky Goswami, who is out on bail, will soon be extradited from Kenya.
The police is now searching for two other key accused, Kishor Rathod and Jay Mukhi, who are absconding in the case.
A hunt for the kingpin behind a Rs. 2,000 crore drug racket, has sent the Thane police knocking on the doors of former Bollywood star Mamta Kulkarni’s house.
Mumbai Mirror quoted Thane Police Commissioner Parambir Singh saying, “This is an global racket and Vicky Goswami is the main link to it. As for Mamta Kulkarni, we are probing her role”. In 1997 Mamta Kulkarni’s husband was arrested in Dubai for drug-trafficking and he also served 15 years in prison there.
Singh said the DEA plans to approach the Kenyan court, asking it to cancel the bail since Goswami is still an active drug smuggler.
Thane police had last week seized 18.50 tonnes of ephedrine and 2.50 tonnes of acetic anhydride, both banned party drugs, from a pharmaceutical factory in Solapur and other locations. “Earlier, too, they had not disclosed the amount of drug that was being manufactured at the company”, said a crime branch police officer.
So far, the police have arrested eight persons for their involvement in the case.
Investigators said they suspected Jain went to Kenya this January and met Goswami.
