Troopers said a man and a woman were on a motorcycle that crashed shortly before 4 a.m. on Interstate 85 north between the Statesville and Graham Street exits.

Chicago police are investigating what caused a crash that killed a motorcyclist on Lake Shore Drive in Hyde Park.

MPO Howard Gimbel, 53, was transported after the crash to St. Joseph’s South, where he later died. However, before the male driver was able to get to safety, he was struck by an SUV. Allen volunteered a blood sample for analysis, but investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. Investigators said charges were pending. Weekes also spoke about the way the news of the tragedy has affected all the officers who knew Officer Gimbel, who was known as a bulldog and a loyal friend. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Gimbel family”.
