DNR officials said the incident was about to turn into a recovery operation around 3 p.m., some three hours after the call. The passengers included four children, ranging in age from 5 to 13. She says the boaters reported that they saw the missing man go under the water and did not see him resurface. The boat swamped and sunk stern first near the shipping channel north of the bridge in Anne Arundel County. None of the passengers had time to put on life jackets. His son was rescued along with another man, his two sons and daughter. All five were being evaluated by medical personnel on shore at Sandy Point. Their condition is unknown. The Coast Guard said the missing man is the children’s father. “That is the sign this is indeed a recovery instead of a rescue operation”, Thomson said.

According to Maryland Natural Resources Police, one adult and four children were rescued by a “Good Samaritan” on another boat one mile north of the bridge and one mile east of Sandy State Park. “We had 12 all of a year ago”.
