Man accused of murdering British lawmaker appears in court

“We need a kinder and gentler politics”, said Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Several Labour MPs were in tears before the proceedings were started by Commons Speaker John Bercow, who described the death of “our democratically elected colleague” as “particularly shocking and repugnant”.

Prime Minister David Cameron praised Cox for her humanitarian work.

Thomas Mair, 52, of Birstall, West Yorkshire, has been charged with murder, grievous bodily harm, possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of an offensive weapon.

He wrote: “Very proud of my sister-in-law Kim, who spoke on behalf of us all and did her sister proud”.

“The markets have always been more comfortable with the United Kingdom remaining in the European Union”, she said.

“We pay tribute to a loving, determined, passionate and progressive politician, who epitomised the best of humanity and proved so often the power of politics to make the world a better place”, he said. He continued to stab her and was heard to say: “Britain first, keep Britain independent, Britain always comes first, this is for Britain”, the prosecutor said.

Cox was a rising star of her party who was a vocal advocate of Britain remaining in the EU.

Broadcast appearances related to the European Union debate are to resume today, with supporters on both sides scheduled to appear on television.

“We must be aware her killing is an attack on our democracy, it is an attack on our whole democracy”, he added.

The “leave” campaign came out swinging on Monday, accusing “remain” of linking the actions of the lawmaker’s accused killer with the beliefs of many who simply want to leave the 28-nation bloc.

Brendan Cox’s Twitter avatar, which was a shot of the “Remain” flotilla that was confronted by a “Leave” contingent in what is being deemed sardonically the “Battle on the Thames,” has since changed to a shot of his wife hiking through the woods with their children.
