Shots were fired as the Met’s specialist firearms unit SCO19 was executing an operation at 12.45pm in Scriven Street, Hackney.
A male police officer has been shot in east London during an armed operation, Scotland Yard has confirmed.
“There are no reports of any other injured persons at this time”, Met Police said.
“Officers have detained a man at the scene of the firearms discharge in Haggerston”.
Kaner Korbay, who runs a nearby dry cleaners, said the officer was undercover at the time he was shot.
Describing what happened, local resident, David Silvester, said: “I heard a few yelling so I came outside and I saw lots of officers dressed in green and wearing hemlets scrambling around”. And I heard a huge shot.
Witnesses told of a major police presence in the area at around 1pm.
A significant cordon has been put up around Scriven Court, ScrivenStreet, Clarissa Street and Loanda Close, while several officers and police vehicles remain at the scene.
A 26-year-old local business owner said: “The old bill raised the house in the estate and the boys got away from the police and they exchanged fire”.
“He was holding his leg. I don’t know if they shot him there”.
