“Hope he rots in jail”, one woman posted on Facebook. Officials say he is also suspected in several other fires over the past year in Lake County.

The booking sheet indicated Pashilk was arrested Monday at 4:30 p.m. Pashilk is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, according to the booking sheet. It has charred more than 4,000 acres in and around the community of Lower Lake, forcing hundreds to flee.

“The community has suffered significantly”, Pimlott added, saying damage from the fire was estimated to have topped $10 million.

“Emotions are still incredibly raw from the Valley Fire”, said state Sen. At about noon, they reported suspicious puffs of white smoke rising nearby in an unburnt area. “Did he admit it or did someone rat him out?”

Retirees Denis and Carolyn Quinn evacuated once past year and again this weekend, when they grabbed family photos and fled the house they share just off Main Street with their adult daughter and granddaughter. Nearly 2,000 firefighters have been sent to battle the flames as only 5 percent of its spread remains contained.

It has destroyed more than 175 structures and is threatening an additional 1,500.

Officials say they will seek prosecution “to the fullest extent” to seek justice in this “horrific crime”.

At a community meeting held on Monday, other area residents cheered when they learned an arrest had been made in connection with all the fires. These people lost homes.

Over 1,600 firefighters are battling the blaze that has left dozens of families homeless in the town 130km (80 miles) north of San Francisco. The order also makes it easier for those with losses to get public assistance.

In the area where the fire had been contained, homes had been burned to the ground, with only their brick chimneys still standing. Here and there, amid the burned blocks, whole homes still stand.

The weekend’s Clayton Fire was burning within a mile of the borders of the Rocky Fire.

Waters says more than 1,700 inmates are now fighting fires statewide, including 340 fighting the Lake County blaze. New evacuation centers were opened at Twin Pine Casino, Kelseyville High School, and the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lakeport.
