“It popped out”, said Salvation Army spokesman Kevin White.

There will still be red kettles out next week and the last day the kettles will be out is Christmas Eve.

Some of the people who have been helped by the Salvation Army include students from Stamford Collegiate Secondary School’s Alternative Pathways program.

At the end of the day, they were able to raise almost $2,000 in donations benefiting Salvation Army locations in the Downriver area.

However, the couple of weeks have seen a sharp decrease in giving and it has Salvation Army officials anxious.

“I did not know if it was a ring or if it was a gold coin or whatever, but it was a diamond ring, and this was a handsome diamond ring”, Sternberg said.

“It’s a good organization, they do a lot of good in the community”, said James Higgins, who donated Tuesday afternoon.

The money raised during the holiday season supports the Christmas Toy Shop, holiday food baskets and services throughout the year.

Over the years the Salvation Army in Miami-Dade County has been given pricey donations, like an emerald and diamond necklace that was donated last December.

“We’re just praying they will be again”.

The Salvation Army volunteers are scrambling these days, determined to meet the dreams of needy children, their families and the elderly.

Anna Stanley chose to give her Christmas presents away this year to help people in need. “Many have been living off credit for four or five months, and now are in real need”.

“The community has always been so generous and supportive”, Lippers said Thursday, as he picked up toy donations from the Tribune’s Food and Toy Drive.

“We have a higher volume of people that have come to us this year for assistance”.
