Police say the gunman who caused a lockdown at Arkansas State University initially wanted to shoot other people at the school, but changed his mind and instead wanted to kill himself.

A day earlier, Bartelt referred on his Facebook page to an August 2012 accident in which he was critically injured while a student at ASU-Newport.

According to the school’s communications director, 47-year-old Bradley Bartelt drove his truck onto campus and crashed into a barrier. The 47-year-old resident of Jonesboro, Arkansas, had posted on Facebook he was homicidal before driving onto the campus.

As police served a search warrant at Bartelt’s residence in the 1000 block of Hall Street, they said they found a loaded AR-15 with ammunition, large hunting knives and shotgun ammunition in the home.

Holmes said bomb squad technicians were going to examine the truck the suspect had driven into the middle of campus. Classes were to resume today, and other final exams were to proceed as scheduled. Police arrested him about an hour after the incident began. Earlier Thursday, the university was placed on lockdown after the man drove his truck onto the center of campus and displayed a weapon. At the time, while no shots had been fired nor any injuries reported, officials urged those on campus to remain inside.

The armed man accused of prompting a lockdown at Arkansas State University has been charged in the incident.

“He said they did not treat him right and pay for certain expenses and bills resulting from the injury”, the report said.

The university reportedBartelt captured around 3 p.m. local time.

Arkansas State University Chancellor Dr. Tim Hudson says students are being trained in how to deal with an active shooter alert on campus.

Jordan Sheets, 20, of Carlisle, a campus sophomore, said he was in the student union when the pickup drove onto the lawn in front of the building. He says no shots were fired.
