Man Arrested Over Paige Doherty’s Death

A MAN HAS been arrested in connection with the death of Paige Doherty in Scotland.

A man is being held by police over the death of a 15-year-old girl whose body was found near a busy road.

John Leathem was remanded in custody following a private hearing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Saturday.

The teenager, from Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, was reported missing on Saturday March 19 after failing to arrive at a hairdressers where she had a part-time job.

Her body was found near Great Western Road at 12.45pm yesterday, around 1.6km away from the shop where she was last seen.

The Hoops supporters’ banner says, “RIP Paige” and is expected to be on show during the Parkhead side’s match with Hearts on Saturday, April 2.

Specialist forensic officers had recently been searching the Delicious Deli in Clydebank’s Fleming Avenue, and examining a property in a nearby street.

Family friend Lynsay Smith said: “All the money raised is to help Pamela, her mum, and Andrew, her stepdad, with any funeral arrangements and anything else to ease the pain that they are going through at this time”.

“We are absolutely devastated that we have lost our handsome little girl and would appeal for anyone with information to come forward and bring justice for Paige”, said in a statement.

Police said on Thursday that no arrests have been made in connection with her death and inquiries are continuing.

The landmark Titan crane in Clydebank was due to be lit in pink on Thursday night in memory of the teenager.

On Tuesday, Detective Superintendent Duncan Sloan disclosed that Paige’s death was being treated as murder and an investigation was launched to find her killer.

“Paige was a very independent young lady, who would routinely make her way to work during the weekend over to Kirkintilloch from Clydebank, taking a bus into Glasgow City Centre on to Kirkintilloch”.
