FHP officials say Mr. McCrocklin was seen standing next to his parked his auto on the south Skyway Fishing Pier in Hillsborough County about 2 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 23).

Pictures from Eagle 8 show the barrier at the end of the pier is missing, making it appear as though the vehicle may have crashed through.
“I heard the vehicle like going 1,000 miles per hour, what it sounded like to me, and I turned around and he was probably really going at least 100 miles per hour”.
McCrocklin’s vehicle became fully submerged, the agency noted.
St. Pete Fire Rescue said the red Mercedes was in the water off the south fishing pier.

It is unclear why the man drove his auto off the fishing pier. “I didn’t have any time to comprehend it”, Munro said.
