Fifteen five-gallon plastic water jugs and half a million pennies later, Anders on Tuesday deposited $5,136.14 into his account to go toward a recent dental bill.
He says that pennies symbolize more than money.
We value his business, as we do all of our customers, Cole aid. “I would never spend a penny”, he says. “I wanted the inner satisfaction that God and I acquired this collection”. The Louisiana teacher even refused to cash in his pennies during the 1970s when the USA government offered an extra $25 for each $100 of pennies turned in.
A coin connoisseur from Ruston, La. gave up his very special collection for a pretty good reason, USA Today reports.
Even over 45 years, it’s hard to acquire a collection of over 500,000 pennies without a little help.
“I would break a dollar before giving up a penny”.
Anders finally decided it was time to cash in his stash since his homeowner’s insurance unfortunately doesn’t cover heaps of pennies.

“If I would see a penny when I’m gassing up, on the ground, or in a store, it would be a reminder to stop right there and say a prayer”, Anders further explains to ABC News.
