Man charged in shooting of police officers in Odessa, Texas

Two people are in jail after a nine-hour standoff with police Wednesday in Odessa, Texas. Authorities say multiple Odessa police officers have been shot while attempting to serve a warrant at the apartment complex that ended with the suspect being taken into custody.

Israeli sources claimed that the young man took out a knife in his possession and tried to stab an Israeli policeman. Palestinian security sources identified the woman as Mahdiyah Hammad, a 38-year-old originally from Silwad.

The scene is still reported active with the shooter barricaded in an apartment.

The man accused of shooting two Odessa Police officers has been charged.

For the Odessa incident, Garza is charged with eight counts of attempted capital murder on a peace officer. He also faces a previous warrant for aggravated robbery.

Odessa police released the names of the officers shot as Sgt. Pedro “Pete” Gonzales and Cory Wester.

Just before 9 p.m. Wednesday night, Garza came out of the residence and was taken into custody.

Gonzalez was shot in the arm while Wester was shot in the chest and upper leg area.

LeSueur said police have no reason to believe there are hostages.

City spokeswoman Andrea Goodson said the officers were being treated at a hospital Wednesday.

A woman was also arrested. Her bond was $50,000.
