Investigators believe that Hill-Carter – who was riding her bicycle in the 900 block of South Ninth Street at about 8:30 p.m. on August 24 – was hit in the head by a stray bullet during a shootout between rival drug gangs.
Tyhan Brown, 18, of the 1800 block of Kossuth Street in Camden, is charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of the girl, authorities said.
According to several reports, there has been an arrest in connection with the shooting death of an 8-year-old Camden girl.
An 18-year-old male has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of 8-year-old Gabby Carter.
CPD Officer Steve Warren said the CPD went with U.S. Marshals this morning to the house of one of Brown’s relatives in Clarksville.
Prosecutors say Brown’s mother, Shakia Land, was already charged with hindering the homicide investigation.
On the night Gabby was shot, Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson had described the search for the gunman as “an all-hands-on-deck, line-in-the-sand moment”.
Officials say both women are charged with providing false alibi information to detectives.
‘We are going to relentlessly continue our investigation into bringing those folks to justice, ‘ he said.
