Police have rearrested Corey Morgan, a man who was initially named as a person of interest. One of the suspects allegedly started dribbling Tyshawn’s ball, ultimately luring him into the alley where police say he was “executed”.

Asked about Stokes’ cooperation with authorities, McCarthy said he wasn’t being helpful, ” not at all”.
Morgan was detained again a fortnight later on an apparently unrelated weapons charge.
Chicago’s police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said the news of arrests should help calm down the situation in the city.
McCarthy, the police superintendent, said that soon after Tyshawn’s death, Morgan came into a Chicago police station with an attorney but did not give a statement.
“I just can’t tell you how… involved these detectives have been in this case”.

One bullet cut through the boy’s right thumb, suggesting he was holding his hands out to block the gunshots, according to an autopsy report.
“And the other gang, too”.
His slaying spurred outrage in Chicago – a city that sees hundreds of homicides each year – and especially in its Auburn-Gresham neighborhood, where gangs battle over turf and the ability to sell drugs.
Police had questioned Morgan two days after Tyshawn’s killing, but released him.
Tyshawn’s November 2 death stemmed from a gang rivalry between the Killa Ward faction of the Gangster Disciples and the Terror Dome faction of the Black P Stones, police previously said. One, Corey Morgan, has been arrested, another was already in jail on unrelated gun charges, and a third is still unaccounted for. He also expressed frustration with police, saying investigators seemed more interested in him than in finding who shot Tyshawn. Police believe Tyshawn’s death was connected to his father’s involvement in the conflict.
“We’re going to go in and destroy that gang”, he said. Pierre Stokes, Tyshawn’s father, has denied those allegations.

Investigators don’t know whether any of the men involved in his death knew the 9-year-old personally.
