Man City dispatches Palace 4-0 in English Premier League

Palace was without a win, or goal, in its last five league games, for the first time since 1988.

Fabian Delph and David Silva scored either side of Aguero’s double as Manuel Pellegrini’s side recorded a seventh successive home win against the Londoners to go to the top of the table before Leicester’s late kick-off at Aston Villa on Saturday and Arsenal’s match at Liverpool on Sunday. But Pellegrini is confident that was an aberration, saying: “One of the things this team is not is predictable. That allowed us to use that space and score two more”. “I will give him that chance because he deserves it”. We’ve been getting away with it a little bit, but against Villa we didn’t.

“We are used to playing eight or nine players behind the ball. We try to make the movement to create space”.

Palace responded with Yohan Cabaye’s free-kick well saved by Hart but City threatened again as Iheanacho missed his kick in front of goal and Aguero nearly found the target with a shot off the ground after slipping.

“Was it comfortable? No, because you never know in this game”, said City manager Manuel Pellegrini. This team have been inconsistent this term but remain the most talented squad in England’s top flight.

Chelsea’s captain John Terry (R) scores his side’s third goal to draw the game 3-3 past Everton’s goalkeeper Tim Howard (L) and Gareth Barry.

Eliaquim Mangala is also battling a similar problem, while Wilfried Bony has a calf issue.

Alan Pardew has admitted he can not “hide” from Crystal Palace’s need to sign a striker during the January transfer window.

City have fared only marginally better with two victories in their last five outings in all competitions, coming unstuck against Everton in the League Cup before touncing Norwich in the FA Cup and failing to score against the Toffees on Wednesday night (Thursday morning AEDT).

City worked their way into the game without really looking like scoring until Delph pulled one out of the bag in the 22nd minute. “It’s something that is in our mix and we’ll have to wait and see”. Who do you think will win? “Of course 90 per cent of them are not available, they’re at clubs and they’re on good contracts and the clubs want them because they are successful”. Not just for us but many teams in the Premier League to wonder whether that is something you can do a deal with.
