Man City set to sign John Stones for £53m

John Stones has intimated his desire to leave Everton to join Manchester City.

It is thought the Etihad club will make a formal offer for the 22-year-old England worldwide as early as this weekend, with suggestions from within the club that the offer will match the £40m approach Chelsea made last season.

The reported £53m will make Stones the most expensive defender of all time beating David Luiz’s £50m transfer to PSG couple of seasons ago.

Stones has reportedly told Everton he would like to move to Manchester City, but Koeman’s side are in no mood to let him go.

The Toffees have been linked with a number of defenders in recent weeks, most recently Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.

Everton are likely to command a significant fee for Stones too as the former Barnsley man is contracted to the club until 2019.

The Everton man – who has ten England caps under his belt, despite not featuring at all during England’s shocking display at Euro 2016 – would become Guardiola’s third summer signing.
