Man City victory overshadowed by Kompany injury
Unfortunately, Kompany’s return only lasted nine minutes after he seemed to re-injure his calf during his time on the pitch.

After having the past year and a half plagued by issues, the Belgian came onto the field as a substitute after 62 minutes but was then forced off with another problem with 71 minutes on the clock.
According to The Guardian, Manuel Pellergini was disappointed after Vincent Kompany suffered an injury on Saturday saying “it was not the best news” once he found out Kompany had re-injured his calf. ‘Maybe it was better to win 7-1 and score more goals but if you tell me now we are going to win all the games 4-1 here this season I don’t have any problem’. We are going to do all the tests that he needs to understand why.
Despite losing Kompany, City enjoyed a good Boxing Day elsewhere as both Leicester and Arsenal lost to bring Pellegrini’s men, who have a superior goal difference to the pair, within three points of the summit ahead of the final round of fixtures in 2015.
Meanwhile, Pellegrini pointed out that he had rested striker Sergio Aguero for the clash against Sunderland as he wants the 27-year-old to be fully fit and ready for Tuesday’s trip to Leicester City, who now sit atop the Premier League standings.
“And we won titles, and won during the last six games without him too”.
The Sunderland manager had been plagued by players demanding to know why they were not being chosen.
City have failed to keep a clean sheet without Kompany this season, but Pellegrini insists his side can be successful without him and has ordered his players to rise to the challenge. “We will be there to help him if he wants it”. “He is captain because he has a lot of important things to give – his performance, his personality”.
Bony struck for his fourth league goal of the season in the 22nd minute as he got in front of a defender and nodded home De Bruyne’s free-kick.
The hosts should have had a fifth goal after that, but Bony lifted his penalty over the bar after Coates appeared to have fouled Silva just outside the area.
“This team is better with Vincent than without him”, he said.
Younes Kaboul’s injury prompted Sam Allardyce to switch to a back four, but he must have been unable to believe what he was watching in the opening 22 minutes.

However, the Blues looked reinvigorated and opened up a 3-0 lead before Sunderland came to life and got on the scoresheet through Fabio Borini.
