Man City wins League Cup to add to growing trophy collection

Goalkeeper Willy Caballero was the hero yesterday as Manchester City won their fourth League Cup title in a penalty shoot-out victory over Liverpool at Wembley.

It left the way for Yaya Toure to clinch it 3-1 with the decisive penalty, sparking scenes of celebration among the City players and supporters. He did, however, pull out several big saves from then on out, but once again came short when failing to reach penalties even after diving the right way. “The negative results of our rivals are always important but they are useless if we do not win next Wednesday against Liverpool”.

The game went to penalties, with Fernandinho missing the first shot before Liverpool had successive efforts from Lucas Leiva, Coutinho and Lallana saved.

Having been criticised in the 5-1 Premier League mauling by Chelsea when City played a young side with one eye on their Champions League trip to Dynamo Kiev, and also the Capital One Cup Final, Pellegrini’s decision to stick with much maligned Caballero was vindicated.

Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero hopes he has restored manager Manuel Pellegrini’s faith in him, following his title-winning heroics in the English League Cup final on Sunday. “I’m happy to win it that way with Willy as a great hero”, Pellegrini told British media.

A few moments later, Aguero was felled by Moreno’s challenge as he bore down on goal, but Oliver was unmoved, prompting major City penalty protests. So I am very pleased for him.

It has also won the Premier League twice and the FA Cup once since the club was taken over by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a member of Abu Dhabis royal family, in 2008.

Carragher was very forward speaking about Liverpool’s troublesome couple, but I think most fans would find themselves agreeing with the legend.

“You have to feel a defeat”.

Alberto Moreno of Liverpool shrugs his shoulders during the Capital One Cup Final match between Liverpool and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on February 28, 2016 in London, England. “You can not say “I don’t care, it’s not important”, he said. But when you make the sort of basic errors that Simon Mignolet does, and so frequently, that five year contract starts to look like the best work an agent has done since Jorge Mendes managed to put himself in charge of both Real Madrid and Manchester United.

“Only silly idiots stay on the floor and wait for the next defeat, we will strike back 100 per cent”.

“Don’t worry, we will go on and we will get better-we have to go the hard way, that is how it is”, Klopp pledged. “We have to carry on, we will carry on”. “Everybody who was available took a penalty”.
