A teenager charged after he allegedly yelled “extremist comments” and was carrying a suspicious backpack.

A statement from NSW Police said the man was interviewed and charged overnight with threatening to destroy or damage property.

After seizing his backpack for forensic examination, police carried out a warrant at the man’s home in Narwee where they seized a number of other items for examination.

They said he was charged a year ago with making hoax threats.

The Sydney Opera House Trust has lodged the plan with the NSW government’s Department of Planning and Environment recently and the public has six weeks, until October 24, to respond to the proposal, local media reported on Thursday.

Security was so concerned by the man’s behaviour they called 000.

The incident comes just days after the Islamic State group issued a directive to its “lone wolf” followers to stab, shoot, poison and run over Australians at iconic attractions including the Opera House.

The “Rumiyah” propaganda magazine also named Bondi, the Sydney Cricket Ground and the Melbourne Cricket Ground as targets in a chilling message on Tuesday.

“We are excited and honoured to be working on this landmark building and look forward to collaborating with the Opera House and its design teams to identify the smartest, most efficient and sensitive solutions for this important project”, O’Rourke said.
