He is said to be in a critical condition.
O’Rourke, whom Gardaí say was shot in a case of mistaken identity, tried to run but was shot several times by a gunman dressed in dark clothes, who then cycled away.
Early reports suggest this shooting is linked to the Kinahan/Hutch feud, and the attackers had been looking for a man who was in a nearby pub.
According to the newspaper, the intended victim is well-known to Irish police and is a close associate of Derek “Del Boy” Hutch, whose family has become embroiled in a bitter and deadly gangland feud with the Kinahan family in recent months.
Both the bicycle and a gun, believed to be the murder weapon, have since been recovered.
Geraldine Comerford, manager at the North Wall CDP, told the Mirror: ‘It’s really tragic.
Meanwhile Superintendent Kevin Gralton at Store Street Garda station has made an appeal for witnesses who may have information to come forward and contact the Gardai.
Just three days later, Gerry Hutch’s brother Eddie, a father-of-five, was shot dead by a gang who followed him into his home on Poplar Row in Dublin’s north inner city.

Sinn Fein Dublin Central TD Mary Lou McDonald condemned the murder and called on people with information to go to gardai.
This shooting happened in broad daylight and with dozens of people around.

“We can not stand idly by while these gangsters walk our streets with impunity, while they take life without any fear of being caught and while they have our families and communities living in fear”.
