According to a report by NBC 7 San Diego, first responders arrived on the scene in the 900 block of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard after receiving reports of an accidental fall.
Electronics have become a major distraction in modern society and there’s no shortage of stories about accidents caused by cell phones and many people have a story of, at the very least, a near miss.
The man had left his vehicle and was walking around looking down at some kind of electronic device – either a phone or a camera – before he fell 60 feet, witnesses said.
“They acted quickly, they found a way to get down the cliff”, Bender said of the rescue attempt. Lifeguards and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department personnel responded, and repelled to the bottom of the cliffs, where they attempted to revive and rescue the man. “They administered CPR to the person in attempt to save a life”. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, KFMB-TV reported.
He told NBC San Diego he heard screams and someone yelling: ‘Help, please God, save me’.
Bender said it’s unclear why he was at the cliff, but it is believed that he was trying to watch the sunset.
