Just like kids say the darnest things, criminals do the darnest things, especially when they want to outrun the long arms of the law. Recently a man named Elias Miranda, who was reportedly wanted in Colorado on drug charges, was arrested in Albuquerque and that too for driving a burning truck through a busy street. You can imagine what a sight it must have been watching a burning truck roll by and naturally it caught the attention of cops, who gave chase.

According to Miranda the truck caught fire, when he in irritation flicked a burning cigarette that fell on a t-shirt kept at the back of his vehicle. As you can imagine the fire spread pretty quickly and Miranda on seeing this was at his wit’s end. Anyone else would have gotten out of the vehicle and tired to douse the fire, but Miranda knew this fire would attract the attention of the cops, so he did something even more foolish. Miranda kept driving the burning truck through the streets of Albuquerque attracting a huge amount of attention in the process.
People were so amazed at the sight that a number of them recorded the whole spectacle on their mobile phones. Surely many of you must be baffled as to why Miranda jeopardized his own life, the life of others and in the process attracted unnecessary attention to himself, by doing what he did. In the end the cops caught up with him, so Miranda jumped out of the window of his vehicle hammer in hand and tried to get away on foot. The cops caught up with him and Tazed him a number of times, but he still kept going.

In Miranda’s defense it has to be said that the man although foolish is very resilient. This was exhibited by the fact that he made the cops run around a neighborhood despite being tazed and with the Taser pins sticking out of his body. Miranda eventually broke into a house using the hammer he was carrying. The cops arrived at the scene and in the end persuaded Miranda to give himself up. In this whole incident, the smartest thing Miranda did was giving up. He must thank his stars that in panic he did not end up killing someone.
