Man drives pickup truck onto National Mall, makes threat

The US Park Police tweeted that areas surrounding 3rd Street and Madison Drive NW are closed, as they address a man who drove his truck onto the Mall. He says he was exposed to anthrax on a Virginia farm. He allegedly collected it from a farmer’s field.

The man is being taken to an area hospital.

He then drove to Washington in a white, four-door pickup truck, entering the National Mall at around 3pm from 3rd Street, near the Capitol Reflecting Pool and Ulysses S Grant Memorial.

Together with DC Fire and EMS, the United States Capitol Police, and the Metropolitan Police Department, we are working to make sure that there is no threat to public safety. Fifteen minutes later, firefighters were preparing hazardous materials equipment, and at 3:30 a man was hosed down by firefighters and led into a decontamination tent.
