We wait to see what happens.
Merseyside Police said in a statement: “Merseyside Police can confirm that a search of Anfield football stadium is now under way after the club raised an alert earlier this afternoon”. “As a precautionary measure, the club has evacuated the stadium and officers are now carrying out enquiries at the scene”.
The man in question was reported to have gone missing at approximately 1.30pm.
The ground was emptied as a precaution to ensure the safety of all inside after one man was unaccounted for following a routine tour.
Eyewitness Richard Williams added: “I am being told that fire alarms are going off and they have evacuated the stadium but there are no fire engines here”.
Guests who were on a tour of the stadium were not being allowed back in the gates to retrieve their cars.
The stadium is now under construction as which will increase its capacity from 45,522 to an estimated 54,000.
With more than 3,000 tonnes of steel already erected at Anfield, the Main Stand expansion project is on schedule for completion during the 2016-17 season – creating one of the largest single stands in European football.
