The New York City Police Department says a 31-year-old man is dead after he was shot in the Bronx.

Two bystanders were injured in the Bronx hours earlier Monday after they were hit by stray bullets near the entrance of a busy subway station, according to police.

The deli worker was pronounced at the hospital.

The officers involved were also evaluated at St. Barnabas, police said. It is unclear what the disputes were about. When officers got to the bodega and tried to escort him out, a struggled ensued and the man got ahold of an officer’s gun, police say.

Police say the victim’s didn’t know each other and didn’t appear to be the targets of the shooting. “It’s not an easy thing to do, if the gun is in the holster, the holster would have to be unclasped”.

The officer whose gun was not taken shot at Guzman, hitting him twice in the torso, police said. He was taken to St. Barnabas as well, where he is in stable condition. The officers, who were both in uniform and assigned to the 52nd Precinct, were being checked out but otherwise are uninjured.
