Since the Canandaigua national doesn’t have a strong family ties as he grew up in a number of homes, he made a decision to change his name legally previous year, The Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester reports.
“I wanted to do something of my own”, said Vader, from upstate Canandaigua. “I don’t want to give anything away”.
He continued, “I just gravitated toward Darth Vader, he was the man. He carried an aura of leadership, toughness and didn’t say much to get his point across”.
He tests his own toughness by competing in half-marathons and endurance events. He also says he was diagnosed with leukemia in 2002 and is raising money for a bone marrow transplant.
“If I’m calling them and they’re like ‘I need to have your name, please, ‘ and they’re like ‘well, we need your real name, please, ‘ and of course I’m like ‘this is my real name, ‘ ” Vader said. He is now on the Bone Marrow Transplant list at Seattle’s VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Washington state. “I’m built like a football player”. Some 500 congregants wielding light sabres and Darth Vader masks packed into Berlin’s Zion Church for a special Sunday service with the film’s theme song played on the church’s organ echoing around the rafters to the delight of all those in attendance.
A screen set up next to the altar showed a clip from a Star Wars movie in which Luke Skywalker fights off Darth Vader and declares to The Emperor that he will never turn to the Dark Side.
“It doesn’t end”, he said.
“I was impressed, this was a good stories, but Darth Vader, not quite the same”, Harbaugh said.
