Maryanna Abdo, a writer by profession, encountered a horrific instance of harassment on the streets of Mumbai and she took to Twitter to nail down the perpetrator.
The victim also mentioned two men, who where passing-by and came to her help when she raised an alarm. Abdo who managed to click a picture of the accused soon after the incident posted it on twitter.
Abdo, after recording her statement with police, removed the picture of the culprit from her Twitter post saying, “I am now in touch with the police here and am handing this matter over to them”.
She has remained silent since – her last tweet, at 11 am, contains a map with a red dot indicating the exact location where she said the incident occurred – she posted 11 tweets in all, majority reiterating what took place. “I showed here where the police station was located”, said an eyewitness. Among those who read and tracked it were officials at the Mumbai police’s Social Media Lab, which monitors the internet.
While some other apologised to her and sympathised for being exposed to such an act in India.
