A 49-year-old Hamilton man was shot to death by Beverly police after they say he used his vehicle to ram several others, including two police cruisers.

The Boston Herald reported that Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said the man was shot once by the officer as he slammed his Chevy Envoy first into the women’s auto, then backed into the police cruiser.

That man was seen hitting two cars and when he backed up he hit two police cruisers. He died later at a local hospital.

Police said the call came from a person who was inside a vehicle being rammed by the suspect.

One of the cars may have belonged to the man’s wife.

The man, Blodgett said, was ordered to stop and did not do so.

Alicia Guerrette, 31, of Beverly, said her mother, Lisa Bright, was in the Highlander with her best friend. “He began moving again, at which time the officer discharged his weapon, firing a single shot through the suspect’s driver-side window, striking him once in the shoulder”.

The incident is being investigated by the district attorney’s office and the State Police. The officer who fired his gun has been placed on paid administrative leave.
